The Honor of His House - In the portrait The Honor of His House by James William Farrah, Sessue Hayakawa is portrayed as an advertisement for the new movie that he is staring in of the same name. The picture is a standard advertisement but Hayakawa’s story is much more interesting. He was born in Japan in 1889, moved to American, and became a popular and captivating silent film star, however, as World War Two broke out he fell out of public favor and went abroad for the duration of the war. Making a comeback after the war, he gained acclaim once again by staring in The Bridge on the River Kwai. An important insight that can be garnered from his personal story is one of resilience, even after being successful and then stereotyped for being Japanese which created a major obstacle in his career, he came back to Hollywood to once again find success. This is important lesson in the business world and everyday life, success is not a one-time thing and must be constantly worked towards even in the face of obstacles.
